On a freezing Friday evening in November 1973, Uri went around to Byron and Maria Janis’s apartment. There I made a couple of phone calls, one to Puharich (a scientist that tested Uri) in Ossining, which is thirty-six miles north of New York City. (Byron recalled that Uri said then that he had to go down to Bloomingdale’s apartment shop). Maria said referring to notes made later that night, Uri left, at a jog as Uri did, and Bloomingdales was eight minutes away and a round trip to the store including and into the camera department where he bought a pair of binoculars and home would have taken twenty minutes or so. Maria knows this because she paced it out in an effort to explain what happened. Twenty-five minutes after Uri left, the phone rang. Maria answered it, and Byron picked up the extension. It was Puharich, calling from Ossining. There is some one here who wants to talk to you he said gravely, Uri came on the line. He said Maria, I'm here. He was obviously in shock. She said, Uri what are you doing there? I thought it was a joke. But he was obviously in a state of shock. She said but obviously Uri had got to Ossining and it was clear that he was a complete wreck. He went through the story on the phone. He said he got to the canopy in front of his building I felt pulled backwards and up. Those were his exact words, and the next I knew, I was falling through the screen door in Ossining It was checked out to see if this could have been a stunt although there was no reason for Uri wanting to impress them, and they considered everything. A train or car journey to Ossining was impossible in twenty-five minutes, especially during busy rush hour traffic. Even a helicopter would have taken longer, because of the time needed to get to the helipad in central Manhattan.

In an account from Puharich he confirms Janise’s chronology saying he was lying in bed watching the six o clock news with the main story being Henry Kissingers shuttle diplomacy between Israel and Egypt. When he heard a crash in the conservatory, and heard Uri calling his name, he had crashed through the roof of the conservatory and landed on a wooden coffee table, dazed and carrying a Bloomingdale’s bag.

The side walk wasn’t crowded and the first recollection I have is of me looking at the pavement and seeing myself a few inches above it. The next thing I can remember is like someone had cut out a split second of my life, like a piece of film taken out with scissors. I remember the lifting off, then I recollect there being a screen in front of me, and putting my arms up to protect my face, and my instincts told me I was about to crash through something. Then the palms were slicing through the screen, but ever so gently then I was falling on the table and the glass on the table slipped under my hands, and was breaking on the floor and me falling on the table, then to the floor. I did not know where I was; I did not recognise it as Puharich, until I got my bearings. I have had many breakfasts in that round porch in summer."
