Artist celebrity sale for dogs home.
A
YOUNG artist with a penchant for pooches has produced a
collection of portraits of dogs of the rich and famous,
which will be sold for charity on Sunday.
Cindy Lass, from St John's Wood, has spent the past 10 months
immortalising on canvas the pets of celebrities including
Elton John, George Michael, Geri Halliwell and Uri Geller.
The 22 paintings will go on sale for £2,500 apiece
at her exhibition of "Celebrity Pawtraits," in
aid of Battersea Dogs Home.
Ms Lass hit upon the idea in September, after reading about
the large number of animals being accommodated at the home.
"Up against time," the portraits were created
from photographs supplied by the stars.
Nevertheless, she did get to meet the long-haired chihuahua
of Normandie Keith, who the artistclaimes bears an uncanny
likeness to its blond owner . " An immaculate yellow
shih-tzu it has a placeto stay in the country," Ms
Lass remarked.
The "30-ish" artist said that one of her favourite
exhibits featured Uri Geller's three dogs - Jon Jon, Chico
and Medina. "People say the painting is the best one
and that they are curiously drawn to it," she told
the JC. A possible incentive for the purchaser of this portrait
is an invitation to tea at chez Geller.
On a personal note, Ms Lass is dedicating the exhibition
to her late Yorkshire terrier, Cookie. "She was minute,
the sise of my handbag. I used to take her everywhere and
have never got over her death."
Though the proceeds are going towards the Battersea home's
expanding cattery, the artist stressed: "Dogs are very
special, spiritual creatures and should be looked after."
The St John's Wood Synagogue member believed that her Jewish
identity had strongly influenced her work, explaining: "I
love the traditions and the spirituality of Judaism, and
I feel that if you have something which could help other
people, you should share it.
"But I am no goody-two-shoes, and I enjoy life to the
full."

Sold A Dud !

Dudley, who went missing for
23 days, is back with his delig~ited owner
- thanks to the South London Press.
The nine-month-old puppy was stolen from owner Philip
D'Ulisse's garden on the last day of May.
MrD'Ulisse, 30, turned to the SLP in abidto track
down his beloved dog. He also contacted TV psychic
Un Geller who urged our readers to send out positive
vibes to get Dudley back
And just as Mr D'Ulisse was about to give up hope
Dudley turned up.
A man known only as Dave from Sevenoaks, inKent
returned Dudley on Saterday after buying him
from some travellers in Streatham.

He
had paid £300 but became suspicious whe there were
no papers for the pedigree pup.
A friend of his showed Dave the SLPs article an he also
saw some of the posters Mr D'Ulisse ha put up.
Mr D'Ulisse, of Battersea Park Road. said: "Im over
the moon, I was begjnning to think I woul never get him
back
"If it wasn't for the piece in the paper, he may never
have been returned and you never know maybe Uri Geller had
an effect too."
Mr D'Ulisse gave the mystery man £450 as a reward.
