Uri bent on raising a lot of charity
money
Theatre auctions for spoon fetch £1000.00 to help children in cancer ward
|
| A TEASPOON, bent by Toon Army hero Uri Geller, has been sold for
£1,000 for charity. Uri offered to sell it at his show in Newcastle Opera House on
Thursday night on condition the money went to a North East good cause. The audience was
immediately thrown into a frenzy and the 55-year-old mystic started a ferocious auction to
give money to the children's cancer ward at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary. Uri has
entered Geordie folklore after using his mental powers to help united end their appalling
run against London teams in the capital. The Magpies clinched a victory against Arsenal
last month in an amazing
Tory against Arsenal test month in an amazing turn around that ended the 29 game
hoodoo. Rod Davies watched the show and was determined to get the bent spoon, whatever the
cost. Mr Davies, 35, owns the Quay 35 restaurant on Newcastle's Quayside and was at the
show for a night out with friends. "It totally came out of the blue," he told
the Chronicle. "I wasn't expecting anything like that to happen and I don't really
need the spoon. I just did it for the charity." Rod has been involved in raisins
money for cancer charities since his grandfather died of the disease seven years ago John
James was 72 when he lost his battle with cancer at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in
Newcastle. "The nurses did such a good job for him they deserve. All the money,"
he said. bidding had started at a lowly £20 and rapidly jumped from £100 to £200. The
amount kept on rising as eager fans wanted to get their ands on a piece of
mind-over-matter magic, and Uri Geller threw in a visit to his Thames side mansion for the
person who bought it. Mr Davies beat off fierce competition to pocket the spoon and spent
£1,000 - possibly the most amount of money ever spent on a single spoon when handing over
the spoon, Uri Geller said: "What a beautiful thing to do for those children. He is
very kind man and is welcome at my house whenever he would like to visit." The spoon
will now take pride of place at the bar in Mr Davies's Quayside restaurant.
